A Curious Piano Camp

This summer students are invited to sign up for 3-day mini camps.  We are hosting 1 camp each month.  The cost for each camp is $75, which includes materials.

Our third camp is a Curious Piano Camp.  From the team at Teach Piano Today,  The Curious Case of Muttzart and Ratmaninoff takes kids ages 7 to 11 on an exciting adventure into the world of composing. Using quick whit, creative design, and clever scaffolding, this composing resource moves piano students from creating simple building blocks to composing all-out piano pieces of their very own.

Never Too Old

I'm currently preparing for my youngest piano students, group lessons for preschoolers.  It got me thinking about a YouTube video I came across a few years ago.  An all too cute senior couple playing a duet in an atrium.

It's never too late to start playing (again).  Maybe you took lessons for a few years because your parents forced you to learn, but then you gave it up.   Maybe you've never played a scale in your life, but you've always wanted to give it a try.  There are so many beneficial aspects to playing the piano.  As Clemency Burton-Hill discovered personally, there is a "de-stressing element" to sitting down at the piano.  Neuroscientists are finding evidence that more than the happiness one feels while playing there is something happening in your brain as well. You are more alert.  "Musicians have faster reaction times than those who are unable to play the piano, drums, or guitar," writes Stephen Matthews.

When we started our family, I gave up playing the piano almost entirely for almost ten years. It was a slow curve jumping back into playing.  But the great thing about music is this: there is always something more to learn.  There is always a harder piece of music around the corner to challenge you.  There are multiple genres and various levels of difficulty.  The piano is truly an instrument for everyone.
